Welcome to the Spring 2009 edition of News & Views

Students at the University were treated to two days of fun at the Kapow! event where celebrity chef Kevin Woodford helped students to learn culinary skills on a budget.

The University's international reputation was strengthened recently with the opening of the University's office in Dubai.

We celebrate a remarkable collection of peace archives held in the Commonweal Library (Special Collections) at the University which has been made available to the public for the first time. The newly-appointed BBC Director North, Peter Salmon, visited the University in February to celebrate the success of the University at the second BBC Connect and Create Awards.

Following on from the successful PeaceJam in March, Dr Fiona Macaulay from Peace Studies discusses the importance of holding PeaceJams for UK youngsters and our 'Person in Profile' is Professor of Medical Technology, Clive Beggs.

Research news includes research being carried out by Peace Studies about the role of conflict in the involvement of children in the worst forms of child labour and an article about PhD student Saira Saleem who is studying here and is from Chancellor Imran Khan's hospital in Lahore.

'Knowledge Transfer' news looks at a collaboration between the University and Yorkshire-based tooling specialist NTR Ltd which has been heralded as an outstanding success by the Government backed Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP).

It also takes a look at the Think Business@Bradford concept competition results where a graduate has won £2,500 to take his unique commuter micro-car business idea further.

We wish our students good luck with their end-of-year exams.
