Welcome to the Summer 2008 edition of News & Views

We have got a few new features starting in this edition. The biggest changes are on pages 22 and 23. Page 22 is now entitled "Students – Past and Present" and celebrates the achievements and news from our current students and alumni. Page 23 is now dedicated to Arts on Campus and will preview and review the wide variety of events that take place at the University.

In addition to this, we now have a column dedicated to obituaries, and a column for new books entitled Literary Corner.

The big news from the last three months was the visit of celebrity scientist Lord Robert Winston who came to open new facilities in the University's Psychology department and deliver a guest lecture in May.

We also celebrated our more mature students during Adult Learners' Week - which also took place in May.

This edition of News & Views profiles Professor Diana Anderson, Established Chair in Biomedical Sciences, who has been making valuable connections across the globe.

In a slight departure called Campus in Profile, we examine the ongoing refurbishment work currently happening on campus as part of the £200 million estates programme.

Research news includes some fascinating work about to begin in the School of Informatics which will see investigations into the use of 'guilt detection' technology at border controls.

Knowledge Transfer news takes a health focus, with information about a new leg support system that will improve experiences for patients and staff and a gel that could replace the need for invasive hip replacement surgery.

We hope you enjoy this edition. The Autumn edition will be out in October.
