Welcome to the Summer 2009 edition of News & Views

In this issue, Vice-Chancellor Mark Cleary highlights the key themes to emerge for the University's new Corporate Strategy - Making Knowledge Work 2009-2014 (page 4).

The University is also very proud to have been part of the recent success as Bradford was announced as the first UNESCO 'City of Film' (page 5).

Page 6 celebrates the official opening of the Escalate Centre in April and on page 7 we celebrate the success of two students who recently won Regional Adult Learner Awards.

In a time of recession, Professor Jackie Ford from the School of Management discusses how organisations need to engage with the latest thinking on researching leaders and leadership to tap the talent and potential of their workforces (pages 10 and 11), and our Person in Profile is Dr Andrew Wilson from Archaeological Sciences (pages 12-15).

Research news coverage includes two Professors from Engineering, Design and Technology who have won the Brian Mercer Award for Innovation to improve the monitoring of sewer conditions in the UK. An article about the Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation (IPI) which has won the Open Innovation Award at the Yorkshire and Humber Innovation Awards (pages 17 and 18) is also included.

Knowledge Transfer news (pages 20-21) focuses on celebrations of the five-year anniversary of Think Business and looks at a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between the University and Bradford-based company Pace.

We hope you enjoy this edition.
