Advanced Clinical Assessment

In the Advanced Clinical Assessment clinic we undertake further investigation of the visual system beyond those that would normally take place during a standard eye examination. We are part of the Bradford and Airedale Teaching Primary Care Trust referral refinement scheme, which is designed to reduce unnecessary referrals to the Hospital Eye Service. In addition, we undertake further occupation-related investigations for employers and also visual field checks for drivers at the request of the DVLA.

The techniques used in this clinic include comprehensive assessment of the visual fields, contact tonometry, colour vision assessment, dilated retinal examination, photography of the internal and external eye and computerised analysis of the optic nerve head.

Eye examination charges

For patients registered with a General Practitioner within the Bradford and Airedale area, appointments classed as Referral Refinement are free. All other patients should speak to our reception staff for details of fees as they are dependent on the nature of the tests required.

Making an appointment

Patients are usually referred to the Advanced Clinical Assessment clinic by their eye care practitioner or from The Eye Clinic's Primary Care clinic, as a result of symptoms or signs of a potential eye problem. Eye care practitioners can download a referral form for this purpose.
