PPE '03 - Tuesday 1- Wednesday 2 July 2003 University of Bradford

Where is polymer processing going? What are the key trends in technology at the start of the 21st century in this vital international industry?

Aims: PPE 03 aims to:

  • provide a timely forum for presentation & discussion of key developments in engineering excellence in polymer processing, including the major collaborative EPSRC research programme Enhanced Polymer Processing;
  • cover leading edge developments in polymer processing technology, in-process measurements and process flow modelling, and control;
  • provide a technical focus for the processing and technology industries.

What is the scope?

Developments in the major generic processing areas - injection and extrusion processes - are covered; these are complemented by sessions on process monitoring trends, and simulation and computer modelling of process flows. There is considerable interest in sensors and their application for enhanced monitoring of polymer, machinery and process, driven by the need for improved quality and efficiency. The overall polymer processing technology flavour is a key feature of this conference.

Who should attend?

Industrial and academic engineers, managers and scientists in the plastics industry and related areas will all find much to their benefit in this conference. The emphasis is upon first class engineering and the application of science - purely commercial and marketing presentations are excluded. An excellent range of high quality speakers from various countries will represent the major industrial and academic thrusts in polymer processing. Delegates will be able to participate in the conference sessions and discussions. A hardbound book of conference papers will be published, and available at the conference (included in the fee). This event has been recognised by the IoM3 for CPD: Continuing Professional Development is the systematic maintenance, improvement & broadening of knowledge & skill, & the development of personal qualities necessary for the execution of professional, managerial and technical duties throughout the practitioner's working life. This leaflet will be made available in large print, braille or on audio cassette on request to the Short Course Unit.

Additional Information

The conference is being sponsored by Faraday Plastics, EPSRC and Presearch Ltd, and is organised in association with the IoM3 Polymer Processing and Engineering Committee.   Prof Phil Coates, chairman of the conference, says " this event has an excellent range of international speakers, plus the extra feature of a focus on the major EPSRC research programme, Enhanced Polymer Processing (EPP), representing leading polymer engineering research in the UK.  The accompanying exhibition and wide-ranging EPP posters, and the published book (over 400pages) are again first class - the gripping range of demonstrations adds the icing to the cake.   But that's not all - the second day will also celebrate the official opening of the new Polymer Centre of Industrial Collaboration at Bradford, funded by Yorkshire Forward."
