What we do

All-age learning and development opportunities

The School of Lifelong Education and Development aims to provide 'Education for All', quite literally from the age of 8 to the age of 80 plus.

We welcome and encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in learning programmes and activities, ranging from 'taster' day sessions through to supporting people returning to education later in life.

Our variety of courses and activities means that whatever your background or circumstance, we have something for everyone. Specifically we are actively encouraging:

  • Organisations and employees
  • Mature students
  • Widening participation
  • Supporting Communities
  • International Students

Flexible learning

Our provision is flexible to suit individual circumstances. From traditional full-time courses, through to part-time degrees and access courses all of which can easily be combined with a paid job, childcare responsibilities, or other lifestyle choices.

Some of our courses only require students to attend formal learning for one day a week, allowing study to be integrated with work, and therefore providing benefits to both the learner and their employer.

How we fit into the wider University

The School of Lifelong Education and Development is one of the seven academic schools of the University of Bradford. We consist of a diverse body of staff and students, many of whom are studying for qualifications while in full-time or part-time work.

Central to our success are the close links we have built up with a wide range of local, regional and international partners. (LINK to collaboration and franchise section)

Our mission and values

Our aim is to be a gateway into Higher Education for all students, regardless of their background, providing flexible methods of learning and access to education for all.

In pursuing this aim, we equip our students with the skills required to achieve their maximum personal, intellectual and occupational potential.

International and EU Students

With 22% of our students joining us from over 110 different countries, we are used to giving newcomers to Bradford a very warm welcome.
