Tomorrow's Sustainable Universities Conference 15 - 16 July 2010.

The event will involve sharply focused key-note presentations and maximum time will be devoted to interactive workshops and discussion. There will also be an opportunity to learn more about two University of Bradford developments which are aiming at BREEAM Outstanding - the Sustainable Student Village (site visit) and the Sustainability and Enterprise Centre (exhibit).

Verbatim theatre will be used in place of plenaries and rappoteurs. Please note that you are not required to appear in the subsequent performance.

Day 1 - Large Scale Institutional Change

Day one focuses on large scale approaches to embedding sustainability within institutional processes, procedures and culture.

Workshops:

Workshop 1 - Students and the Sustainability Journey.                                                                                  (led by Sheri-Leigh Miles, StuDent Coordinator, Ecoversity)

Workshop 2 - The Role of Curriculum in Institutional Change.                                                              (led by HEA ESD project team Professor Stephen Sterling and Dr Simon Smith)

Workshop 3 - Creating Internal Community and Communications.                                                       (led by Dr Christine Sefton, Ecoversity Action Researcher)

Workshop 4 - Institutional Research: Lessons in Sustainability.                                                             (led by Dr Lou Comerford Boyes, Ecoversity Longitudinal Researcher)

Each workshop is supported by a White Paper setting out a number of key issues and discussion points. These can be accessed by clicking on the links above. Individuals attending the workshops are invited to provide short evidence based documents (max 2 pages) in advance to support, inform and stimulate discussions on the day. Each workshop will produce a written report on the key points - which will be circulated to delegates after the event.

Day 2 The Future Sustainable Campus?

Day two focuses on possible developments in virtual Higher Education and the implications of this and other drivers such as cost.

Verbatim Theatre
A verbatim theatre uses the real words from interviewees/delegates to construct a play or performance. A script will be crafted from vox pop interviews, discussions and anecdotes from Day 1 and played out in a performance to inform and hopefully entertain Day 2.

There are three Future Scenarios workshops to choose from
  1. 2020 Campuses: What will they look like, how will they work and how virtual will they be?
  2. 2020 Technologies, New Industries, New jobs: How will they re-shape the student learning experience and what are the opportunities for sustainability?
  3. 2020 Leadership for Sustainability: Where are the leaders and what will be the future governance requirements for sustainable HE?
