For queries about UoB policies and procedures, please see advice under the Staff or Student pages.
All staff and students are encouraged to develop "flu friends", healthy people who can collect food and medicines etc on your behalf should you become ill. Please consider anyone you know who lives alone and may be in need of help.
Public health bosses at NHS Bradford and Airedale are urging people to find at least one, but ideally two 'flu friends' as part of their preparations should they get swine flu.
The flu friend will need to provide identification for themselves and identification for you. The GP will issue an authorisation voucher (like a prescription) entitling you to anti-virals. The surgery will also tell you where your anti-viral medication can be collected from and if this is a dedicated collection centre, during what times it will be open.
However, it's very important that people with swine flu or flu-like symptoms do not go into pharmacies, GP surgeries or hospitals. Please be aware that you are contagious for 5 days after the symptoms appear, and should remain off work for a further 2 days after the symptoms have disappeared to ensure you do not pass the infection on to other people.
Flu Friends can also make sure you have enough food, fluids and simple cold remedies if you become ill and can't leave home.
A flu friend should be:
A friend or relative who does not live at your home (because you may have passed the virus onto them), does not have flu themselves and would help you if you fall ill.
It is recommended that they should be:
The full list is provided below
If you don't have a flu friend and need one, please let your GP know.
In order to confirm proof of identity and address, individuals contacting the flu line need to be advised that their flu friend needs to take some form of identification to the Antiviral Collection Point to collect antivirals on their behalf. Parent's identification is suitable for a child.
The flu friend needs to take their own identification (same as below) to the Antiviral Collection Point at the same time.
There is a wide range of ID that can be used, preferably with a photo, eg passport, driving licence
People living in the Bradford and Airedale area will be asked to collect medication from one of the following antiviral collection points
