Overview

Studying at Bradford offers physiotherapists a unique clinical experience. The range of clinical placements that you undertake will allow you to develop an understanding of the ethnic traditions, values and beliefs in delivering care that is responsive to the needs of patients and their families in today's ethnically diverse society.

Special Features

  • Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy are two of the Allied Health Professions. Practitioners use their expertise and skills to treat and rehabilitate people with a range of health and social care problems and work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals
  • The prime purpose of Physiotherapy is to restore and maintain function, activity and independence, and to prevent injury through information and advice on health lifestyles
  • Occupational Therapists work with people who have reduced levels of opportunity and/or abilities to engage in an range of everyday tasks (e.g. home life, employment or leisure activities), enabling them to function to the best of the abilities and to improve their quality of life
  • Access exciting new practice simulation suites in the new School of Health Studies building

Aims

The BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy includes both theory and clinical sessions. At the end of the programme you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and will be eligible for full membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP).

The first year of the programme is delivered in the University, but in your second and third years you will also be able to experience a range of clinical placements. Approximately one-third of your total time on the course will be spent on clinical placement.

UK and EC nationals are currently eligible for NHS funding to cover tuition fees. Students meeting UK residency requirements are also eligible to apply for NHS student bursaries. Please note that this scheme is subject to change.

Most physiotherapists work in the NHS but opportunities also arise in the private sector, sport, research, education and industry. Completion of a degree in physiotherapy will equip you with transferable skills that could be used in many areas of healthcare and other occupations.

We may consider applicants who offer 2 Science-based AS levels, instead of a full biological science A level. We do not accept General Studies as an A-level subject.

We will also accept a relevant vocational award of the same depth and value in combination with GCE A and AS levels and relevant BTEC or Access awards.

You should also have at least 7 GCSE passes at grade C or above to include English, Mathematics and Biology or Combined Science.

Irish Leaving Certificate: at least 6 passes (to include Biology at grade A) at higher level in one sitting with grades A,B,B,B,B,B

Students must also show evidence of recent study in the last three years.

Non-standard Offer

Those studying Access, should follow a programme in Health Professions or Science and will be asked to achieve a distinction in science-based modules and merits in the remainder of your modules. If you study an Access course, the GCSE requirements may be included within your programme of study, although this will vary depending on the FE institution you study at.

Applicants from the Bradford Foundation Year or other appropriate science foundation year need to achieve a minimum of 65% in their course.

Key Skills level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy will be considered in lieu of GCSEs in English and Mathematics.
