Department and Facilities
The Bradford Centre for International
Development (BCID) is one of the UK's leading university-based centres
for development studies. Established in 1969 in the University of Bradford
as the Development and Project Planning Centre (DPPC), we now offer a
comprehensive, multidisciplinary programme of postgraduate degree courses
in international development and economic policy that equip students to
work in many areas of development.
Our postgraduate taught courses
attract students from all over the world, many with a personal commitment
to development and with experience of working in related areas of the
public, private and voluntary sectors. Our students have found the skills
they have learned through these courses to be particularly valuable in
their career development, with many past students now in highly influential
positions within national and local government, multi-lateral agencies
including the World Bank and the UN. Others are also working in NGOs and
the private sector or have gone on to undertake further research.
Funding Opportunities Available
The University currently offers
a number of scholarships for international students each year, covering
the difference between the Home/EU and International student fee. These
are available across the whole range of the University's courses, and
are awarded strictly on academic merit.

wanted to study in a small city where I wouldn't have any financial or
physical pressures. Bradford was an ideal city as well as a university
with relatively small numbers of students. To me, living costs and an
ideal ambience for study are highly important. I also appreciated a quick
response from the administration. The course itself seemed attractive
covering a wide range of issues."
