The University has a policy of mandatory anonymous marking for all forms of assessment where it is practical (see below). Anonymous marking is designed to eliminate both conscious and unconscious bias on the part of the examiners; to protect them from accusations of bias and discrimination; and to reassure students that the process is fair and impartial.
The marking of all coursework and other forms of assessment at all levels must be undertaken anonymously except where this is not practical because the nature of the assessment involves direct contact between the student and the examiner. Forms of assessment which fall into this category will therefore be exempt from the requirement for anonymous marking without the need for a formal waiver.
Further guidance, including a list of exempt forms of assessment is provided in the Anonymous Marking Policy.
