Overview

This programme is designed to support experienced healthcare practitioners develop skills in complex reasoning, critical thinking, and analysis. These skills will benefit nurses, radiographers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and dietitian speech therapists.

You will develop a strong foundation around the four pillars of advanced clinical practice, which includes clinical practice, leadership, education, and research. There is an option of completing two 30-credit modules specific to the area of clinical practice. This programme is designed to help you undertake the first step towards an MSc by completing a Postgraduate Certificate.

Awards and outcomes

Year 1: Postgraduate Certificate in Enhanced Clinical Practitioner

After successfully completing 60 credits and achieving the award learning outcomes, you will be eligible to:

exit with the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Enhanced Clinical Practitioner
continue to Year 2 of Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Specialist Healthcare Practitioner

Entry requirements

A registered qualification with a UK professional regulatory organisation
A first level degree in a health-related topic or an advanced diploma or evidence of level 6 study or significant clinical experience and employer support following individual review by the programme leader

English language requirements

Students for whom English is not a first language must have an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent

Postgraduate Certificate

You will study and complete one 30-credit module per University semester.

60 credits are required to achieve the award of Postgraduate Certificate.

Career prospects

On completion of the Postgraduate Certificate (PGC), you may want to leave your studies with the option to return at a later stage. You will be able to import the PGC towards learning the Postgraduate Diploma or MSc Specialist Healthcare Practitioner through RPEL process, or progress to these awards immediately after completing the PGC.

This programme incorporates a range of modules from the Faculty of Health Studies that are negotiated to provide an individualised curriculum that suits your particular learning or employment needs.

You will be guided in module choices by the Programme Leader at a study planning meeting before the start of the programme. Your study plan will be reviewed on an annual basis with your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT). You may wish to have previous accredited level 7 learning recognised through the University recognition of prior learning (RPEL) process.

The PGC in Enhanced Clinical Practitioner incorporates a range of modules for the Faculty of Health Studies that are negotiated to provide an individualised curriculum to suit your particular learning or employment needs.
