PDR 2017/18:High Quality Conversations

Prerequisite: This workshop is for all line managers and designated PDR reviewers. Applicants are required to read through the new PDR 2017-18 guidance notes prior to attending the course (these are available via HR ServiceNow, and will also be circulated with the course joining instructions). Participants should commit to attend the full training session; partial attendance will not be registered on individual training records.

Aim: This interactive workshop will support line managers and PDR reviewers to understand the cultural and behavioural change required, their responsibilities for PDR and high quality conversations, and to develop their skills to conduct high value conversations.

The revised PDR process will support:

- the use of PDR to drive high quality and productive conversations about individual performance, development, career ambitions and academic progression;

- cultural and behavioural change, where the focus is on the quality of the conversation and not the process itself;

- the right for all staff to meet with their line manager to discuss their progress, development and career progression;

- two-way conversations between line managers/PDR reviewers and staff;

- PDR being on the agenda throughout the year, with regular and ongoing development and coaching of individuals to be their very best;

- conversations that provide ongoing review and support in real time;

- conversations that take place in real time with a focus on the future, rather than a once-a-year review of the previous 12 months;

- providing a clear line of sight between individual performance and how it contributes to the University and Faculty / Directorate visions, plans and objectives.

Session duration: 4 hours.

CANCELLATIONS: Applicants who are no longer able to attend this event should cancel their place as soon as possible. Cancellations should be made at least 5 working days prior to the event or the late cancellation / non-attendance process will be applied - i.e. the appropriate line manager will be advised of the non-attendance and a minimum fee of £50 per day (or part day) will be charged to their department.
