Applied Computing Research Unit

The Applied Computing Research Unit has established track record in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Visual Computing, Image Processing, Big Data, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things and Mobile Applications. Members of the Applied Computing Research Unit have been engaged in the delivery of cutting edge technology, advancing the state-of-the-art and delivering innovative computer systems for SMEs and large industries (e.g. ESA, NASA, NHS, Yorkshire Water).

Most recent achievements

  • Creation of a cosmetics ingredients database and development of computer models to predict interactions with an organism – COSMOS project
  • Developing new solar imaging algorithms to detect solar features that are responsible for Solar Spectral Irradiance – SOLID project
  • The development of diagnostic technology for Eye disease, in collaboration with Manchester Eye Hospital and Bradford Royal Infirmary. For more information see the Medical Imaging Research Group.
