Baroness opens Cyber Security Centre at the University of Bradford

Published: Wed 9 Aug 2017

The University of Bradford will welcome Baroness Harris to officially open its new Cyber Security Interdisciplinary Centre.

Baroness Angela Harris will be visiting the University on Thursday 10 August and will join the Vice-Chancellor, academics and students in celebrating the creation of the new centre.

The University has created a Cyber Security Interdisciplinary Centre to carry out focused research into cyber security issues, the first of which was a joint radicalisation project with West Yorkshire Police.

The Centre has a wealth of expertise from many different backgrounds including computer science, digital forensics, cryptography, peace studies and social science, which enables them to look at the data available from different perspectives to that of the police, to understand how an individual can be radicalised through online means.

Dr Cullen said: “The aim of this Centre  is to create a unique resource that will act as a central research, knowledge transfer and consultancy hub for all matters related to cyber security activity at the University of Bradford, positioning the University to capitalise on any new developments in this area. It will also result in more effective delivery of undergraduate and post graduate programmes.

“The collaborative partnership with West Yorkshire Police is a key part of the CSIC and is the first of many important projects to come out of the centre.”

In 1999 Angela Harris was created a Liberal Democrat Life Peer, taking the title Baroness Harris of Richmond. Since being in the Lords, Angela has Chaired the European Union Select sub-Committee F and has been a member of the European Union Select Committee, Offices Committee and Refreshment Sub-Committee.

Angela Harris has a special interest in the police and she is President of the National Association of Chaplains to the Police. She is a Patron of Trauma International and Hospice Homecare Support Group and also Deputy Chair of the Industry and Parliament Trust.
