Graduate, BSc Animation and Special Effects
Ilze Kolosovska graduated in 2011 with a degree in Animation and Special Effects. In her first year, Ilze won the Advanced Visual Communications Award and she graduated with a 1st class honours degree.
We caught up with Izle to find out how the University's ethos of 'Making Knowledge Work' has enabled her to succeed in her studies and set her up for an outstanding career in animation.
"I've always been interested in the arts, science and computing. So Animation and Special Effects seemed like a good way to combine my interests.
"For me, the best thing about studying Animation and Special Effects at Bradford was the tight knit department and the closeness that the students had with the tutors. I really enjoyed the evening lab sessions. We did lots of group work which gave us a taste of what it would be like to work in industry, we made professional contacts that we can use throughout our careers, and we had lots of fun.
"The tutors were amazing. It was wonderful to work with them because they know what it's like to work in industry and they pushed us to work hard to achieve our goals. It was almost like working with a colleague, not a tutor. You always felt welcome to ask questions and you knew you were going to get the best out of the course.
"It's thanks to the support of the tutors that I found more confidence in myself. In the beginning I felt a little intimidated by the level of the other students' skill level but I came to realise that it really doesn't matter what your skill level is when you enter university because you get lots of encouragement from tutors and your fellow students that helps to get you where you want to be.
Since graduating I have been working as a 3D artist and animator for a market research company GFK. I managed to secure the job straight after graduating."
