Mobile Technology for Staff
The University offers a corporate mobile scheme for staff, including the provision of smartphones and tablets, with the option of a Vodafone contract for voice and data services. To join, you must obtain line manager approval and the necessary budget, and accept the Corporate Mobile Device Policy. Devices purchased are supported by IT Services, regardless of whether you have local Faculty IT support.
IT Services also supports the use of privately owned mobile devices, commonly referred to as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). If you want to use a personal smartphone or tablet for work, you must add an Exchange account on the device to the University's Office 365 service, as this enforces security and allows the remote wiping of the device. Failure to do so may represent a breach of the Data Protection Act. Support for personal devices is on a best efforts basis and is limited to supporting setup and connection to University systems. We cannot support the hardware. In the first instance, you should follow the instructions to configure your device yourself, and contact IT Servicedesk only if you encounter problems.
