The Library offers access to tens of thousands of eBooks on a variety of subjects. Use Summon on the Library homepage to locate and access eBooks. You may also use the Library Catalogue search box to identify suitable content for your needs by limiting the collections you search to 'eBooks'.

Further down the page you will find a selection of eBook packages our members have access to, as well as a number of free eBook services. To see a frequently updated list of our eBooks, please see our eBooks RSS feed.

Finding eBooks via the Library Catalogue

Find eBooks by publisher or platform

The table below provides information on the eBook collections the Library subscribes to. Click on the resource name to gain access to the eBook site. Please be aware that the Library may not have purchased all eBooks from the listed suppliers. When browsing for contents, you will usually only see eBooks the Library owns but it is still recommended that you limit your searches to include owned content only.

Academics may wish to consult the Library's page on reusing Bradford eBook content in the classroom and Canvas.

Not all titles are available for downloading. Online reading is available for all content. 

Use your Adobe ID to install Adobe Digital Editions from your app store. This is needed for downloads.

British Library The Nineteenth Century Books from the British Library Collections include more than 65,000 first editions, covering philosophy, history, poetry and literature. Cornerstone Pharmaceutical Sciences Collection The Cornerstone eBook Collection provides online access to 14 titles from the LWW Health Library. IE9, Chrome, Safari and Firefox Apple and Android platforms. No apps needed as content is viewed via browsers. No downloading facility.

Print up to a single chapter.
 
CHEMISTRYnetBASE A selection of handbooks and recent research on Chemistry topics. Most recent browser versions recommended. Devices enabled for PDFs. Download sections or whole titles. Requires individual registration. Downloads do not expire.

Allows printing by chapter but no copying and pasting.

No note-making function.
 
Dawsonera A selection of eBooks on a variety of subjects. Most recent browser versions recommended. Android and Apple platforms. NOT available on Kindle. Whole titles may be downloaded. Individual pages may also be downloaded but accessibility features are disabled. Downloads expire in 1-3 days.

Copy or print up to 5% of a title.

Printing from online copy only, not from the downloaded version.

Note-making function available.
iPad users will need to install the Adobe Reader. This is not recommended for Android devices.
IT Pro
(Alternative access to IT Pro on-campus only)
The IT Pro eBook package provides full-text access to nearly 10,000 titles on IT and Computing. Latest browser versions recommended. Enabled JavaScript, cookies and pop-ups.   Download executive summaries and single pages. Some publishers' titles allow chapter downloads. Companion CDs and live tables may also be downloaded where indicated. Downloads do not expire. NB!downloading to personal devices only NOT on student clusters.

EBSCO eBooks
(Alternative access to EBSCO)
A selection of eBooks on a variety of subject areas.  Chrome 16, Firefox 8, IE7, Safari 5. Android and Apple platforms. Kindle, Nook and Sony Readers. Any reader supporting Adobe eBook DRM. Download function available. Download advice available online. Downloads expire after 7 days.

Print out or email up to 60 pages.

Note-making function available.
iMac users need to install the Schubert|It PDF plug-in to use the eBook viewer.

ECCO Eighteenth Century Collections Online contains all the books published in Great Britain and its colonies during the 18th century. Access is provided to more than 180,000 titles. Proquest Academic Complete  Over 80,000 eBooks across all disciplines.  Most recent browser versions recommended. Ensure JavaScript, cookies and pop-ups are enabled.  Android, Apple and Linux platforms. Kindle FIRE.  Download function available. Whole title downloads expire after 14 days. Section downloads do not expire. Adobe Digital Editions needed for whole title downloads.

Printing allowance per title determined by publisher. Where possible, download first and print from the download for easiest option.

Directory of Open Access Books Free The primary aim of DOAB is to increase discoverability of Open Access books. Search, browse and download from a large selection of eBooks.
eScholarship Editions Free The collection includes over 2,000 eBooks from academic presses on a range of topics, including art, science, history, music, religion, and fiction. More than 500 of these are available for free download. Content is free for non-commercial use.
FreeBooks4Doctors Free Over 650 medical eBooks freely available in full text for personal study and research.
InTechOpen Free More than 2,400 books across engineering, physical sciences, life sciences, health sciences, and social sciences published under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license.
OAPEN.org Free OAPEN (Open Access Publishing in European Networks) is a collaborative initiative to develop and implement a sustainable Open Access publication model for academic books in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Nearly 1,000 free online titles available.
