MChem Chemistry with Pharmaceutical and Forensic Science

Danielle Opoku-Akyeampong

Destination: Formulation Scientist at Unilever

Coming to the University of Bradford was one of the best decisions I ever made!

I studied MChem Chemistry with Pharmaceutical and Forensic Science and was allowed to tailor my course to what I wanted to do in the future. With help and guidance from lecturers as well as older students, I chose more chemistry and forensic science modules during my BSc years and focused my degree more on the analytical side of chemistry.

For my masters, I did a nanoscience project and synthesised and analysed the perovskite methylammonium lead iodide which is currently being studied as a viable replacement for crystalline silicon in solar cells. The laboratory skills I gained during my time at Bradford well prepared me for a career in industry and I am now a formulation scientist at Unilever.

My time at the University of Bradford is one I will look back on with the fondest of memories. The staff support cannot be rivalled and the care and attention you are given from your first to your last day at Bradford is most invaluable. You are taught by lecturers who are truly passionate about what they do and that passion is infectious. You are guided every step of the way and the relationships formed with staff and your peers helps you to grow both as an individual and as a chemist.
