Teaching and Supervisory Responsibilities
Leslie specialises in teaching financial management and management accounting. He lectures on the Foundations of Accounting 2 (undergraduate) and MBA Foundation modules.
Leslie is course director of the MA in Finance, Accounting and Management.
Leslie, regarded as one of the UK's leading writers on accounting and finance, began his professional career in 1958 with a lengthy spell in local government with Huddersfield Passenger Transport Department. He qualified as a chartered certified accountant in 1965, and in 1966 became management accountant at Holset Engineering, Huddersfield. This was followed by two years in public practice with Smith and Garton, chartered accountants. He became a lecturer/senior lecturer in accountancy at Huddersfield University in 1971 before taking up an appointment as a lecturer in finance and accounting at the University of Bradford School of Management in 1979. Since his appointment at the University of Bradford, he has been a regular contributor to many of the UK's leading professional journals.
In addition to writing a number of other books, he is the author of three books for the Financial Times/Prentice Hall - Essential Financial Accounting, Essential Management Accounting, and Essential Finance and Accounting for Managers. Two of these books have been translated into a number of languages, including Chinese, or brought out as special editions in countries throughout the world. He is the author/co-author of two books for Thomson's Elements of Business series.
Leslie is a former examiner for the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA), and has written distance learning material and multi-choice examination questions for leading UK professional accountancy bodies, plus a chapter for Management Concepts and Practices (Financial Times/Pitman), and is a co-author of the Collins Dictionary of Business. He has presented several lectures and papers in the UK, Europe and the Far East.
On a personal note, he sings with St Mary's Church Choir, Honley, and has been a leader in the Scout movement for more than 40 years.
