Alan's main industrial experience was with Rolls Royce Advanced Research Department where he was employed as a Research Scientist. Following this he moved to Leeds Beckett University where he was employed as a Lecturer and after 26 years he was Head of The Industrial Systems Department. Prior to coming to Bradford Alan headed up a consortium of Universities and colleges in West Yorkshire to develop the prototype Foundation Degrees. In 2003 he moved to the University of Bradford as an Academic Development Consultant specifically to look at developing Employer focused Programmes. Two years ago he was appointed as Associate Dean Employer Engagement in the School of Lifelong Education Development.
During his time in Academia Alan has had significant experience in the QA processes; Chairing and being a part of Approval Panels in many Universities in this country as well as overseas. He was a member of the QAAs Benchmark Committee for FdSc and also part of their advisory team looking at the QA processes of Fd's.
Alan has Industrial Consultancy experience as well as research in the field of Design and Manufacture of Fibre Reinforced materials.
