Ancient cooking pots reveal gradual transition to agriculture

Humans may have undergone a gradual rather than an abrupt transition from fishing, hunting and gathering to farming, according to a new study of ancient pottery. Researchers at the University of York and the University of Bradford analysed cooking residues preserved in 133 ceramic vessels from the Western Baltic regions of Northern Europe to establish whether these residues were from terrestrial, marine or freshwater organisms.

Bradford researchers design cancer treatment to safely target all solid tumours

A new cancer treatment being developed at the University of Bradford has the potential to find and completely destroy solid tumours, regardless of cancer type. The drug is inactive until triggered by the heightened activity of an enzyme that is always found in the tumour environment, releasing a potent anti-cancer agent which destroys the tumour's blood vessels, causing it to starve to death. Moreover, since the enzyme is only usually active at high levels in tumour environments, the drug is unlikely to have any side effects on healthy tissue.

The University of Bradford is proud of the part it has played in one of its graduates development of a unique concept sports car. Richard Serrant originally graduated from the University of Bradford with a Bsc in Biomedical Science, but was persuaded to return to his life-long love of cars as a business venture. By accessing the University of Bradford¿s 'Amaze Yourself' programme he gained a basic grounding in starting up and running a business. Following this he joined the ThinkBusiness@Bradford programme, which gave him the support he needed to develop his micro car concept.
