Bradford crocus appeal scoops gold

The University of Bradford has won Best Alumni, Development or Fundraising Campaign at this year's HEIST awards for the Bradford Crocus Cancer appeal.

The BBC's Jeremy Vine presented the award at a ceremony in Manchester.

The appeal, launched by the University of Bradford together with Yorkshire Cancer Research, the Bradford Telegraph and Argus newspaper and the Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust, was described by the judges as a "great campaign to build alumni relations around something so specific, motivating and core to the University mission."

The University was also highly commended in the Best Low Budget Initiative category for its Big Move video and in the Student Voice award, voted for by students.

The HEIST awards recognise excellence in education marketing and have been running for 25 years.

Director of External affairs Mark Garratt said: “We’re delighted and very proud to win this award and the team deserves this recognition. They have worked extremely hard to run a fantastic appeal that has been taken to heart by the Bradford community and will have a direct impact on enhancing the University’s capability to develop effective cancer medicines in the future.”
