University of Bradford appoints Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Transfer)

The University of Bradford has appointed Professor John Bridgeman as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Transfer).

Professor Bridgeman will join the University in October to lead the University’s research and knowledge transfer activity, helping to deliver our vision of making knowledge work.

Research and knowledge transfer takes place across all University disciplines and is a vital part of Bradford’s work to translate our world-leading research work into practical solutions to real world problems. The University has established seven research and knowledge transfer centres and all have impressive track records in attracting research funding, providing research studentships, and working with industry and business.

Professor Bridgeman joins us from the University of Birmingham, where he was Head of Civil Engineering and Professor of Environmental Engineering. He began his career as a civil engineer and held his first academic position as a senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He is experienced in world-leading academic research. Before his appointment at Birmingham, he spent 15 years working in industry with companies such as Severn Trent Water and WS Atkins.

Professor Bridgeman has published research papers in many high-ranking journals, including Water Research and Science of the Total Environment.His research interests include water resources engineering, computational modelling, and water and wastewater management.

Professor Bridgeman said: “I am delighted to be coming to Bradford to take on this exciting role. The University has world-class research strengths in a range of disciplines, and I look forward to working with colleagues to strengthen the reputation and ranking of the University’s research through multidisciplinary partnerships and collaborations regionally, nationally and internationally. There are significant opportunities for the University to increase and diversify its research income and to enhance the impact of its research, and I am excited by these prospects for research and knowledge transfer across the whole University.”
