Celebrating International Women’s Day - IWD@UoB2017

Wednesday 8th March 2017
Atrium / Great Hall / Small Hall
Richmond Building, University of Bradford

The University of Bradford is committed to developing and implementing interventions to create gender-inclusive study and work environment.  The GENOVATE team and staff from the Centre for Inclusion and Diversity [CfID], in collaboration with the Gender Staff Forum and the Bradford Students Union are pleased to lead the University’s campaign to #BeBoldForChange on International Women's Day 2017 and beyond.

Let’s work together with women, men and non-binary people joining forces to take ground breaking and pragmatic actions that truly drive the greatest change to accelerate gender equality. Let’s help advance and unleash the limitless potential offered to our great Technology University by all.

Please #BeBoldForChange  by joining us at the IWD@UoB2017 Celebrations taking place on 8 March 2017 from 10.30am to 3.30 pm in the Atrium/Great Hall. IWD@UoB2017 will provide opportunities for critical conversation on gender equality, seminar, panel discussion and exhibition.

IWD@UoB 2017 will feature the following key events:

  1. This Prof Can Gallery – 10:30-15:30 - IWD@UoB 2017 will provide a platform to launch an exhibition ‘This Prof Can’ - a compilation of inspiring images and insightful commentary shared by our female professors, in celebration of our female academic role models at the University of Bradford.
  2. GENOVATE Café 11:00-13:00 - During the Café you will be invited to engage in critical conversation on a variety of questions in relation to gender equality at the University of Bradford. The key purpose of the GENOVATE Café is to establish how the GENOVATE Project and Gender Equality Action Plan have reinforced the University of Bradford’s approach to gender equality and supported the University’s aims of sustaining principles of the Athena SWAN Charter.
  3. Hothouse Seminar 13:00-14:30 on Men Leading the Way: Disrupting Gender Biases in the Workplace- Men have a responsibility to actively help create gender equality in their workplaces, and insights reveals the things male professionals could be doing differently to help improve the workplace culture for men, women and non-binary people.
  4. Social Media campaign #GenderScissors – Kicking off on 8 March 2017 - Striking gender inequalities persist when it comes to career advancement and participation in academic decision-making. Despite significant progress in their level of education relative to men over the last few decades, women are increasingly under-represented as they move up the stages of an academic career. We want to raise awareness of this under-representation of women through a social media campaign kicking off on 8th March 2017 – Please help in the campaign! Take a selfie with a sign saying #GenderScissors. On 8th March tweet your photo and tag your photo and tag someone you think can help cut the gender scissors in your organisation. Please do not forget to use the hashtag #GenderScissors
