Green Technologies

One of the key drivers of research at CPES is the search for better and more efficient ways to manufacture products. In particular, scientists at CPES have a remit to improve processes by:

  • Reducing material usage including starting materials and process materials such as organic solvents
  • Reducing the amount of waste from the process
  • Minimising the amount of energy required during the process
  • Optimising process times

CPES scientists are developing a number of “green” technologies.

  • Microwave technology in the extraction or recrystallization of pharmaceutical materials using sub-critical water
  • Solvent Free Continuous Co-crystallisation via melt extrusion
  • Co-crystal preparation using ultrasound and microwave techniques
