English for Academic Studies
This online course will help you improve your academic English skills.
As you work through the course you will have the chance to get online and face-to-face feedback on your progress.
If you complete the whole course you can get certification of your academic English skills.
Preparing for Study: Academic Culture, Language and Assessment – New short (3 hour minimum) online module
Are you confused about what Academic English means? Do you feel worried about speaking in seminars, taking notes in lectures or completing written assignments?
The Language Centre is offering a free online introductory course ‘ Preparing for Study: Academic Culture, Language and Assessment’.
Although aimed at international students and language-focussed, it could be really useful for anyone studying at university.
The course is flexible and you, the student, decide what to study and which tasks to complete:
Unit 1 Understanding academic integrity including citation and plagiarism (Listening skills)
Unit 2 Academic and technical vocabulary in your discipline (Speaking skills)
Unit 3 Researching for your subject (Reading skills)
Unit 4 Different types of assessments and marking criteria (Writing skills)
End of course quiz & Discussion Board/ Personal journal (Optional)
When: Available anytime from Tuesday December 1st 2015
- Where: Fully online in Blackboard
- Length: 3 hours to complete core tasks
How to access the course:
To enrol in Blackboard's Language Centre Support Classes, go to organisation , ADU-LC-Support, then 'Self-study resources‘ :Preparing for Study: Academic culture, language and assessment.
You will see the course 24 hours after enrolling.
