Information for Organisations

Have you had a project on the back burner for a while now simply because there has been no time or resource to work on it?

If so, the Summer Experience placement programme may be able to help. The scheme gives organisations access to a pool of enthusiastic and skilled students who are seeking valuable work experience during the summer vacation period.

Benefits

  • Additional expertise and resource at little or no cost to the organisation

  • Dynamic fresh ideas and enthusiasm to help move your company forward

  • Opportunity to implement valuable plans into action

  • Access to leading edge technological skills from current undergraduate students

  • Strengthened links to the University to connect to other business support initiatives

Is my organisation eligible?

The scheme is open to local and regional businesses and enterprises of all types and sizes. We invite a diverse range of projects and as such welcome applications from a variety of organisations covering a broad selection of sectors and industries.

How does it work?

  • We ask you to complete and submit our ‌Project Brief Form 2017 which details the project specifics, start and end dates, ideal candidate profile and method of application.

  • We advertise your internship to our current first and second year undergraduates through our Jobs Online vacancy service, through targeted emails and through social media and students are invited to apply with a CV and cover letter

  • Applications are received by the Employer Services team and submitted to you who will then shortlist and interview at your convenience

  • Students normally start their placement at the end of May or even into June or July and we ask that they run for a minimum of 6 weeks (or part time equivalent)

  • You will be visited by a member of the Employer Services team at a half way point to ensure the placement is running smoothly

  • We invite both employer and student to a celebration and awards ceremony in September where there will be an opportunity to network with other placement providers, students and staff of the University

  • Students and placement providers will be asked to submit nominations for best placement provider and best placement student award categories.  These will be presented as part of the awards ceremony which will be held in September.
