Theatre in the Mill has a longstanding track record in supporting the development of new work, new practice and new artists. Following some extremely successful development work through the Open Space programme over the last year or so, Theatre in the Mill intend to formalise this programme and would like to receive expressions of interest from exciting, thoughtful and innovative theatre-makers.
Previous Open Space artists include theatre artists and Fringe First winners RashDash, Dance makers Laura Dredger, Rachel Dean, Instant Dissidence, Live Artist Jane Packman and music and performance artist Chole Beezer.
Currently we do not offer a fee for participation in Open Space but we do offer the provision of space for artists to explore new work or new ways of working, offer artistic and technical advice and support in taking the work further and to broader audiences. We estimate that this support, were it charged, would be in the region of £2,000+. This can be used as funding in kind for funding bids.
In return the projects will:
- show back their work at the end of their residency at the Mill and
- offer targeted workshops for the student body in their working methodologies.
These show-backs will be programmed but it is expected that they will take many forms and will be highlighted as such, these might be:
- animated lectures,
- video showings,
- concert readings
- workshop performances
We will offer two Open Space slots per University term, starting post-Christmas, the dates are negotiable with the successful artists or companies but will have to fit around our other programme.
Contact Richard Warburton to apply for a pitch slot, or if you have further enquiries.
