- Loves to travel
- Does volunteer work in the community
- Wants to become a clinical academic
I am a second-year Biomedical Science student.
I love to travel and experience new cultures, and meet new people so I'm especially excited to visit China as part of the Sichuan Summer School. I also love to volunteer, and give my time to the community by befriending an elderly person, visiting them once a week, encouraging them to walk and become more active, and to just be a friend.
I work part-time as a Healthcare Assistant, where I get to assist in the daily care of patients in residential care homes and hospital wards. Although some days it can be emotionally tough, working with end of life patients, dementia patients etc. I leave every shift with the satisfaction and knowledge that I have made a difference.
I chose Biomedical Science for its diverse modules in the field of Biology. I am currently taking part in a voluntary summer placement investigating nanotised antioxidants and their effects on human lymphocytes after in vitro exposure to genotoxins. It's a great experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to improve my lab skills and become more competent.
My goals for the future are to gain a good degree, and to become a clinical academic: combining my passion for working with patients, and medical research in areas such as cancer drug trials.
