BSc Marketing, 2012

Murad Mirza
  • Year in industry at Lovell Partnerships
  • Studied in China
  • Secured graduate role and now manages high profile accounts

University life

Murad took advantage of many professional development opportunities available to him as an undergraduate student at the University of Bradford School of Management.

"During my course I got the opportunity to go to China for a few weeks as part of the Study China Programme," Murad says.

"I studied Chinese economics, culture and language - and how this related to my course of study."

"I also did a one-year placement at Lovell Partnerships as a Planning Co-ordinator, kicking off my professional work experience.

"Having achieved the Diploma of Professional Training from the School of Management has definitely played to my advantage.

"This experience and qualification, along with the relevance of my degree, put me ahead of other candidates when applying to graduate schemes in my final year."

Graduate scheme

The experience he gained during his placement year helped Murad secure an excellent role on graduation.

"I was offered a place on the direct entry graduate scheme at Mondelez International (formerly Cadbury Plc), where I worked as a Regional Account Manager (RAM) in the convenience channel for two years.

"I worked with retailers to grow their businesses through Joint Business Planning and also carried out some project roles within my role as RAM."

Professional life

Murad has already made considerable progress in his career in the food production industry, joining multi-national Greencore Group.

"I'm a National Account Executive managing the Tesco account (a top-four account) at Head Office level - driving Greencore's grocery category within Tesco both nationally and internationally.

"I have P&L (profit and loss) accountability so developing and driving pricing and promotion strategies, NPD and distribution are some factors of the JBP that are critical to the growth of both Tesco and Greencore in the category."

Features of the role

Murad enjoys the challenges of his current role and says there's "a sense of achievement when managing a high-profile account".

"I enjoy working cross-functionality from Marketing to Supply Chain, as this gives me the ability to move into any department.

"I also like the idea of being part of a large organisation with a close-knit culture and opportunities for travel."

But he says working with "big numbers" has its own challenges: "Having to turn lots of information into insight can be tricky."
