Business experience puts students first in line for future success
Bradford University School of Management's close ties with the corporate world have produced record results again, with three-quarters of all students who undertook a placement year securing a First class honours degree at the recent graduate ceremony.
The School also celebrated the successes of over 300 undergraduates in Business, Management and Law subjects, with over 70 percent achieving a First or 2:1.
Adam Mohammed, an Accounting and Finance student who secured a placement at GlaxoSmithKline, said it had been a vital element of his time at Bradford. He said: “The placement really helped with my final year studies and gave me an insight into what I can achieve. Within my placement I was often surrounded by senior management and that was a massive motivation for me. The experience taught me to be commercially aware and how to operate in a business environment.”
Roman Sadovskis, another successful placement student, said: “My final year marks were much higher thanks to my placement. It showed me how a company works in real life and I learned how to put my skills into practice. I had a sense of responsibility and learned how to work in a professional environment.
“I would certainly recommend other students to undertake a placement or summer internship. It increases your employability and helps you stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs. I got lots of relevant experience which allowed me to find a job with a good international company.”
Bradford also has one of the best track records for students securing employment and a huge swathe of graduates have already secured top jobs with some of the world’s top employers, including Gist, EY, HMRC and the Department of Health.
The School is known for its internationally diverse mix of students - the student body spans more than 70 nations - and this year’s graduates once again featured people who had travelled around the world to take advantage of the School’s world-renowned teaching standards and triple-crown accreditation.
One of the award-winning students at this year’s graduation ceremony was Kinga Ratusznik, who won the Naylor Wintersgill Prize for the best performing student on the Accounting and Finance Degree. She said: “I have had a great time here at Bradford. I’ve really enjoyed meeting students from different backgrounds and cultures, and I’ve really built up my confidence over the past few years. I will definitely miss everyone at the School.”
The graduation ceremony also saw an honorary degree awarded to Bradford alumnus Alex Brummer, who is an award-winning journalist and economics commentator currently working as the City Editor for the Daily Mail.
