Professor Rae Earnshaw scholarships support 10 students

Professor Rae Earnshaw said: “I was inspired to help support the University of Bradford through an appreciation of what it has done for me in supporting my career as a Professor and a Manager.

"Having received so much from the educational system in the UK at undergraduate and postgraduate levels through the acquisition of knowledge and experience, I was strongly motivated to contribute to supporting the current generation of students who have outstanding academic ability, but find themselves in challenging circumstances financially, to receive similar benefits by undertaking study at a university that prides itself on strong graduate prospects and cutting-edge research.”

With it being harder than ever for many students to overcome the barriers standing between them and university education, philanthropy and the support of donors such as Professor Rae Earnshaw is becoming increasingly important.

The University invests more than £4million annually in scholarships and is one of the reasons it was recognised for its outstanding impact on social inclusion by being named the UK’s University of the Year for Social Inclusion 2020 by The Times and Sunday Times.

Oliver Beckwith, MSc Big Data Science and Technology student said: “The scholarship has given me the financial stability to allow me to focus completely on my studies and my extra-curricular activities such as sports. Thanks to this, I have been able to maintain my first-class degree grades from my undergraduate course.”
