Student shortlisted for Rising Star 2014 Award
A final-year Healthcare Science (Life Sciences) student from the University of Bradford has been shortlisted by the Chief Scientific Officer for the Rising Star 2014 Award.
A final-year Healthcare Science (Life Sciences) student from the University of Bradford has been shortlisted by the Chief Scientific Officer for the Rising Star 2014 Award.
The 2014 Healthcare Science Awards is one of the highlights of the Chief Scientific Officer’s event: #LTO14 Healthcare Scientists - Leading and Transforming Outcomes which is taking place over 31 March and 1 April 2014.
The awards ceremony will be held tonight (Monday 31 March 2014) at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
Student, Maja Lesniewska has been working in the genetics laboratory at Birmingham Women’s Hospital during the second and third year of her degree for her specialised placement. She has been very active in promoting the Healthcare Science course nationally and was the opening speaker at a recent Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) event in London.
Maja has also been involved in liaising extensively with the Council of Healthcare Science in Higher Education about the student experience.
She has given a presentation at a Yorkshire and Humber Health Education England annual event in Leeds about her experiences on the course; set up a blog on the University of Bradford website and arranged meetings with fellow students to support them in their study.
Dr Sue Jones, Course Tutor for Healthcare Science said: “The Healthcare Science Practitioner Training Programme is still a new initiative for Higher Education providers and less than ten Universities across the UK currently deliver the Life Sciences programmes. It is therefore essential to promote these exciting new courses which contain in-built placements for the students in each year of study.
“Maja has been an exceptionally motivated and enthusiastic student who has engaged with the Council of Healthcare Science in Higher Education throughout her degree, in addition to her University commitments.
“She is not only an excellent ambassador for our programme at the University of Bradford, but also for Healthcare Science as a training programme for future Biomedical Scientists.”
