The Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal will receive a boost from the Bradford City Runs.
The local charitable initiative has been announced as the official charity partner of the event organised by Bradford Council in partnership with Bradford Athletics Network
The Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal is a local charitable initiative between the University of Bradford, the Telegraph & Argus newspaper, Yorkshire Cancer Research, the Sovereign Healthcare Charitable Trust and Bradford Council.
A significant proportion of the race entry fees will go to the charity which aims to improve the number of opportunities for the discovery and development of new cancer medicines by the University of Bradford.
Bradford City Runs will again give runners and joggers the chance to take part in either a 5k, 10k or half marathon route on Sunday, 26 October. New for this year is a children's race which is a one mile circular run on Thornton Road starting at 9.15am. All routes start and finish in the city's multi award-winning City Park.
The accurately measured mulit-lap course takes in the College and University which proved popular with runners last year. All roads will be closed to traffic, offering runners and spectators a unique city centre event. The organisers hope to attract participants from across the Bradford district and beyond, emulating other successful Bradford running events which see thousands of people taking part.
It is also hoped that a significant number of entrants will run especially for the Crocus Appeal and get friends and family to sponsor them. Entries can be made online at www.racebest.com/races/bradford-city-runs
The Lord Mayor's charity will also benefit from stalls that are being held at the event.
Bradford Council's Executive Member for Sport, Coun Andrew Thornton, said: "We are delighted this event is supporting The Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal. The Bradford City Runs format has proved popular as it gives people a choice over the distance they run.
"We are also introducing a children's race this year to broaden appeal to all ages."
